MICROLIGHT
TRAGEDY HITS WORLD PRESS
On Saturday,
January 16th, 2010, I met and photographed
microlight pilot Martin Bromage, who was about to embark on
an epic charity flight from Staverton Airport in Gloucestershire
to Sydney, Australia.
Hours into
his flight, on Monday, January 18th, Martin got into
difficulties over the English Channel and tragically died. Over
the next few days the pictures of Martin looking relaxed,
happy and excited about his trip were used in every UK
national paper, European and international newspapers and
websites worldwide.
It saddens me that my photographs of Martin appeared -
particularly in Australian newspapers and websites; not for
the glory he should have received, but for what he was trying
to achieve and for what ultimately cost him his life.

PHOTO
JOURNALISM AND ME...
I cover all aspects of press photography - from hard news to
court snatches; royals to politicians; features; celebrities;
wildlife to sport; and business to advertising.
Notable photographs taken by myself and used nationally
and worldwide are:
- The Princess
Royal driving with an out-of-date tax disc
whilst attending a function at Gloucester Cathedral.
- OAP Cissy
Townsend forced to leave a care home
against her will. She died five days later leaving behind
her a national debate on care of the elderley.
- Barry Chambers
conducting a rooftop siege in
Gloucester.
- The bride
who turned up to her wedding in a 25-stone
wedding dress.
- Flooding
in Gloucestershire.
More recent news
jobs have involved a derailed train,
refugees found in the back of a lorry, and a chemical fire
which resulted in photographs resembling a scene out of
the film 'ET'.
These are
just a few examples and can be seen here and in
the cuttings section. |
